Some books and shows that I am currently intaking.
Diablero is a Netflix Original series that is set in Mexico and filmed in Spanish. A demon hunter and a priest team up to find a lost girl. The show is scary, funny, and suspenseful. It helps me practice my Spanish while being entertained. |
Mexican Americans Across Generations: Immigrant Families, Racial Realities has helped me to better understand the process of assimilation throughout a family. There are several factors that play into a family's assimilation. Vasquez addresses and explores these through interviews with three generations of several Mexican-American families. I found a sense of validation within this book as I was able to relate to each family in a different way. Jane the Virgin is a drama with elements of romance, suspense, and comedy. I find myself able to relate to Jane in some ways. Her abuela reminds me of mine, and the references to Catholic guilt are familiar too. I do have my critiques of the show in general and of the lead actress, which I will address on this platform at a later time. |
